JUNE 17, 1890: A NEW CRIB
Lydia Mackenzie of San Francisco patented a portable crib. “My invention relates to an improvement in children’s cribs; and it consists of a portable arrangement of parts.” On the same day, Delia McGregory of Los Angeles patented a milk churn. “The object of my invention is to produce a wholesome, palatable, inexpensive compound, superior to my former compound in quality, texture, and appearance.” Mackenzie and McGregory were among a host of women in nineteenth-century California who patented industrial and domestic innovations.
